School Readiness Program
The School Readiness Intensive Programme is a specialist, full-time programme created by The Developing Child Centre and now offered at our Abu Dhabi centre. It supports the developmental needs of children aged 2 to 8, helping each child reach their full potential.
The programme’s main aim is for children to leave with the academic, social, emotional and physical skills they need to feel confident and thrive in a mainstream school.
Children begin learning from the day they are born, and every child learns and grows in their own way. At TDCC Abu Dhabi, our educators and therapists get to know each child closely: their needs, interests, challenges and stage of development. This lets them plan meaningful learning experiences across every area of development.
Children learn in small groups with a high ratio of adults to children. Each child has an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) that brings together targets from all the professionals working with them, so their support is truly multidisciplinary. IEPs are reviewed every term, and new learning targets are set at each review.
Our programme follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which sets out seven areas of learning and development. All seven areas are important and closely linked. Three of them, known as the prime areas, are especially important for sparking children’s curiosity and love of learning, and for building their ability to learn, make relationships and flourish. The three prime areas are:
- Area 1: Communication and Language
- Area 2: Physical Development
- Area 3: Personal, Social and Emotional Development
The four specific areas, through which children strengthen and apply the prime areas, are:
- Area 4: Literacy
- Area 5: Mathematics
- Area 6: Understanding the World
- Area 7: Expressive Arts and Design
Our long experience has earned TDCC a strong reputation and close working relationships with many mainstream schools across the UAE.
