School Readiness Program
The School Readiness Intensive program is a specialized, full-time school program developed by The Developing Child Centre. It nurtures and supports the developmental needs of children between the ages of 2-8 years to help empower each child to reach their full potential.
The program’s main objective is to ensure that children graduate with the academic, social, emotional & physical skills required to feel confident and succeed in mainstream schools.
Every child starts to learn from birth, and they learn and develop in a wide variety of ways. At The Developing Child Centre, every educator and practitioner looks carefully at every child, considers their needs, their interests, their challenges, and their stages of development to help plan successful experiences across all areas of learning and development.
Children are taught in small groups with a high adult-to-child ratio. Every child has an Individualized Education Plan that incorporates targets from the professionals working with the child to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach. The Individualized Education Plan is reviewed termly when new targets for learning are set.
There are seven areas of learning and development that must shape educational programs in the early years. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships, and thrive. The three prime areas are:
- Area 1: Communication and Language
- Area 2: Physical Development
- Area 3: Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
The four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied are:
- Area 4: Literacy
- Area 5: Mathematics
- Area 6: Understanding the World Area
- Area 7: Expressive Arts and Design
