Seeing is Understanding: The Power of Visual Supports at Home and School

Visual support can be powerful tools in helping neurodiverse children better understand routines, expectations, transitions, and new experiences. When information is presented visually, children can feel more prepared, confident, and independent in their daily lives.

In this webinar, Mary Jane Valenzuela, Senior Lead SEN Educator, will share practical, evidence-based strategies for using visual supports at home and school. Parents, educators, caregivers, and professionals will explore simple ways to use visuals and social stories to support daily routines, prepare children for transitions—including the start of a new school year—and strengthen consistency between home and school.

About the Speaker

Seeing is Understanding: The Power of Visual Supports at Home and School 4 Mary Jane Valenzuela is a Senior Lead Educator at TDCC with over 10 years of experience in Special Education. She holds a Master of Arts in Education, majoring in Special Education, and is a licensed professional teacher. Her expertise includes Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), classroom and behavior management, teacher training, and evidence-based educational approaches.

With experience as a SPED coordinator, college instructor, and trainer, Jane works closely with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to support children with developmental and learning needs. She is trained in ADOS-2, the Arrowsmith Program, ABA-based multidisciplinary approaches, early intervention and school readiness, SEN coordination, learning disabilities, and ASDAN. She also conducts workshops for parents, caregivers, and educators, promoting consistent and inclusive support across home and school.
