Malak Azizieh

Speech and Language Therapist

Malak Azizieh is a dedicated and passionate Speech and Language Therapist with a comprehensive educational background and extensive clinical experience. She holds a Master of Science in Speech, Language, and Learning from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Malak holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

With over 5 years in the field, Malak has gained diverse clinical experiences across various settings, including university clinics, schools, hospitals, and private practices. She has worked with individuals across the lifespan with speech, language, and communication challenges, including mixed receptive-expressive language disorder, language delay, dyslexia, articulation and phonological disorders, fluency, apraxia of speech, pragmatic communication disorders, and selective mutism. Malak has extensive experience working with related conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Developmental Delay, Vision Impairment, Cerebral Palsy, Learning Difficulty, and Genetic Disorders.

Malak completed the Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program at the UC Davis MIND Institute, where she received interdisciplinary and leadership training to improve outcomes for individuals with ASD or other developmental disabilities. Malak received mentorship from prominent researchers in the field of Autism, trained in administering the ADOS-2 and Tele-ASD-Peds, and participated in interdisciplinary evaluations for ASD and developmental delays.

With a passion for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Malak is trained in using low-tech and high-tech AAC devices, including speech-generating devices like TD Snap, TouchChat, CoreScanner, Unity, and LAMP. She employs methods such as direct selection, eye-gaze, switch access scanning, and partner-assisted scanning. Her additional training includes the Hanen More Than Words approach and Dynamic Tactile and Temporal Cueing. She is also a trained Early Start Denver Model Therapist with training in Parent Coaching.

At The Developing Child Centre, Malak is committed to supporting the community through evidence-based practice, ensuring the most effective, research-based interventions in her therapy sessions. She fosters a collaborative environment where families, educators, and professionals work together to create meaningful, lasting improvements for individuals with communication challenges.
